Stevenage, Hitchin and Letchworth towns will be going for “In Bloom” gardening glory this summer – and they need a little something to publicise the event.  So ARCH Community Group, together with the Advertiser newspaper, are looking for 3 young people in the area to design a poster for the three competitions.

You have to live or go to school in the town you are designing the poster for – Stevenage, Hitchin or Letchworth. The theme of the poster is: Garden Olympics or Flowers, Bees, Birds & Trees. The poster can be created using any art materials or paint and should be produced on A3 or A4 paper.  So we are looking for a poster which is inspired by the ARCH group’s motto, while incorporating the Olympic Games – we are sure this will give you lots of scope for some colourful ideas.  The winning posters will be used to promote this year’s In Bloom competition and entries into Anglia in Bloom.

Completed posters should be sent to: The Advertiser, 34 Bancroft, Hitchin, SG5 1LA. Please send by 31st March.  Please ensure that your name, age address and a contact telephone number on the back.  Unfortunately your poster cannot be returned and there is only one entry per person.  You have to be 16 or under to enter. The posters will be judged by the ARCH Community Group and The Advertiser and their decision is final.

    The In Bloom Launch

    Press Release
    29th March 2011

The 2011 In Bloom Competition for Stevenage, Hitchin and Letchworth was launched last weekend to coincide with the RHS National Tree planting weekend.
This year’s competition will be run by ARCH Community Group with the sponsorship and support of The Comet newspaper. The theme for this year competition is “Flower, Bees, Butterflies & Trees” .
As part of the launch campaign the ARCH Committee ran a poster competition and invited the 3 winning schools from the 2010 In Bloom Competition to take part. The Schools (Knebworth Infant & Primary, Lonsdale & Fearnhill) ran their own in school competition and the top 3 from each school were submitted to ARCH for judging. We were pleased to announce that Mailan Blakey from Knebworth Infant and Primary school was judged to have produced the best poster.
The launch was a great success and would like to thank the ARCH Community Group Committee and the volunteers who helped put on the event and plant 150 sapling trees at Wymondley Community Garden. A special thank you to the Mayor of Stevenage, Michael Downing, for helping to open the event, Barclays Bank, Stevenage, for sending along some expert diggers and the Stevenage In Bloom Forum.
Look out for the entry form in the Comet or collect one from ARCH Plant & Aquatic Centre in Gosmore. The closing date is 13th June and we hope that this year’s competition will have a record number of entries.
