       Steve Howells – Chair

Steve was one of the founder members of ARCH community Group.

I got involved with the In Bloom competition back in 2007 after making a moss figure for the garden display at Bedwell Community Centre and that was it I was hooked.  Since then I seemed to get more involved taking over the In bloom garden competition for Stevenage after the council pulled out due funding cuts.  Today most of my free time is taken up with School projects. 2012 is an important year for the group with 2 towns entered in to Anglia In Bloom.

When I was asked by Steve to join ARCH Community group – how could I refuse ???   – It’s a great excuse to have a ‘private viewing’ of some lovely gardens whilst judging them !

Apart from the enjoyable aspects of judging for the ‘In Bloom’ competition, and meeting some interesting local gardeners, for me I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience of gardening and Garden Design with local community projects, so they can get the best out of their outdoor spaces.

I have been involved with the “In Bloom” campaign for at least 6 years now.  There have been a few changes over the years but the aim is always the same, to create a better environment and neighbourhood within the local community.  I have met many interesting people and have worked on a number of garden related projects in and around Stevenage during this time and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

I would recommend it to anyone!

Marilyn Sommerville – Stevenage In Bloom Forum

My involvement as a volunteer with Stevenage in Bloom started about 6 years ago, when I helped out on a project at Stevenage Museum Garden. I enjoyed the community spirit of working with others to tidy up the garden and liked the feeling that I was helping to improve the environment of the town that I live in. There are various activities during the year which contribute to Stevenage in Bloom and I especially enjoy meeting and talking to so many Stevenage residents and having the privilege of judging their gardens.  I never cease to be amazed at the high standard and diversity of garden design and planting in our town.
